Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Cambridge University Ukrainian Society (CUUS) has composed a statement of solidarity with Ukraine: Universities #StandWithUkraine.
In the light of today's full-scale military invasion, we are meeting today to support each other and all those devoted to Ukraine. Please join us today (February 24) at 18:00 on King's Parade, Cambridge. This is a peaceful, spontaneous and short meeting intended to lend support to anyone in Cambridge, who might be suffering from the anxiety, stress, fear, and sleeplessness this Russian war has brought. After the 45-minute meeting, at 19:00, we will gather at Fitzwilliam College's MCR room to discuss further actions. Representatives of all the CU societies are welcome!
We denounce the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian state and the annexation of Crimea that began in 2014. We condemn the recent decisions of the Russian Federation government to further violate Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and to attack the people of Ukraine and their land. We demand an end to Russian interference in Ukraine and the urgent withdrawal of Russia's troops from Ukraine's borders and territories. We call onto states around the world to support Ukraine with actions and not just words.
We condemn the cyberattacks, information war and fake news campaigns created and promoted by the Russian state and media. We will do everything in our power to share truthful information about Ukraine and to transform universities around the world into spaces of full and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and its peoples. We must build a new strong movement to stand with Ukraine now, and to prevent a further escalation of this international crisis.
We, members of the global academic community, stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine against Russian military aggression and imperialism.
